Camminerete su e giù per i sentieri profumati di Taormina e godrete di una vista unica al mondo, nella terra generosa di Sicilia. Tra agrumeti ed orti qui tutto odora di straordinario, ed è arrivato a noi attraverso secoli di storia, intatto ed incolume.
Le prime notizie relative a questa amena destinazione ci arrivano dal lontanissimo 700 a.C. dove la comunità di Siculi si erano insediati vivendo di allevamento di bestiame ed agricoltura già prima dello sbarco dei Greci che in quell’epoca fondarono la altrettanto bellissima Naxos (oggi Giardino Naxos). Queste città sopravvissero all’epoca romana e alla caduta di questo impero cercò di resistere agli attacchi dei saraceni, soccombendo però verso il 900 d.c. con un tragico eccidio. Negli anni a seguire la comunità cristiana cercò di riprendere il controllo e finalmente si giunse ad un periodo di convivenza pacifica. Non si può dire però che la pace potesse regnare a lungo sulla costa siciliana, e la grande bellezza di Taormina fu causa, certamente, di invasioni varie e ripetute nel corso di tutti gli anni 1000. Francesi e spagnoli si avvicendarono, poi i Borbone intervennero con opere di miglioramento urbano e donarono la magnifica Isola Bella, che si trova ai piedi delle rocce su cui si erge Taormina, al sindaco della città in segno di riconoscenza.

Dall’inizio del 1800 fino agli anni 1980 Taormina è centro culturale ed artistico importante, e luogo di residenza di nomi importanti. La stagione turistica è sviluppata su tutto l’arco dell’anno con clima piacevole durante l’inverno e puntate massime di calore ad agosto. Facile immaginare la dolce vita vissuta in questi luoghi di delizia, qualcosa che si avvicina di molto ad un paradiso in terra. Divenuta quindi sede di una élite sociale ed artistica di rilievo, grazie al fatto che divenne residenza estiva di potenti di tutto il mondo, Taormina divenne un teatro aperto, rappresentante tutte le arti. Lo è ancora oggi, con un’offerta estiva di grandi eventi in uno splendido scenario.
Oggi restano panorami incontenibili ed un mare dipinto in mille toni di blu. Le acque ricche di pescato dello stretto di Sicilia fanno da confine ad un territorio felice, che dona agli ospiti un ricordo difficile da cancellare.

I pendii del vicino Etna non impauriscono e anzi, danno occasioni di visite ad un vulcano che proprio non vuol saperne di tacere. Ma non temete, lo spettacolo serale di una lontana colata sarà un ricordo che non potrete cancellare.

Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!|
