I tre castelli di Bellinzona
Castelgrande, Sasso Corbaro e Montebello sono castelli del Bellinzonese, riuniti e accessibili in un’unica occasione di visita essendo non distanti l’uno dall’altro.
Castelgrande sorge in cima ad una collina in prossimità della città di Bellinzona in una zona abitata sin dal 5’500 a.C. in posizione strategica. A quell’epoca era presente una semplice fortificazione in legno, che fu rafforzata dopo la presenza dei romani fino a divenire passando fra Longobardi, Franchi, comaschi e milanesi, un castello difensivo a scopo militare e postazione di controllo dei commerci. Nel 1200 costruire in pietre era molto costoso, ma venne utilizzata grazie all’ampia visione su tutta la vallata.
Da Castelgrande si accede alla Piazza della Collegiata di Bellinzona per poi risalire verso il Castello di Montebello e il Sasso Corbaro, tramite un sentiero tra i vigneti passando per il paese di Artore.
Il Castello di Montebello fu costruito in un secondo tempo rispetto a Castelgrande, e serviva a controllare ulteriormente la città, a difesa da chi aggrediva dal nord. Caratterizzato da lunghe mura di cammino di ronda, oggi è sede del Museo Civico.
L’ultimo dei tre castelli in ordine di costruzione, Sasso Corbaro è in posizione più alta degli altri, e da lì godrete di un panorama completo, fino al Lago Maggiore a sud. Fu sede di guarnigione di soldati e di una prigione.
Rovinati dalle incurie del tempo, inutilizzati, fortunatamente mai venduti, i Castelli di Bellinzona oggi stanno a testimonianza di antichi tempi passati, di spostamenti e di tattica militare difensiva. Sono Patrimonio Unesco, quindi considerati di enorme valore per l’umanità.

- in auto: autostrada A2 asse Gottardo-Chiasso, uscita Bellinzona
- in treno: linea nord-sud treni svizzeri, fermata Bellinzona
